Boomer and Beyond is a natural next step coming on the heels of the successful publication of Aging Answers, a supplement within Northeast Ohio Parent magazine, designed to reach the “sandwich generation” – parents taking care of their growing children as well as being caregivers to their own parents.
Boomer and Beyond fills the need in the marketplace for objective, local and positive content focused 100% on the needs and wants of those 55 and older in northeast Ohio. Editorial coverage areas include health, wellness, legal, financial, insurance, entertainment, recreation, education, technology, travel, events and much more. An editorial advisory board has been established to help shape the content toward what is most relevant for this audience.
The tagline for Boomer and Beyond is “Your Journey – Your Life,” reflecting the unique path we all take and empowering us to make the most of life based on individual choice. Northeast Ohio is a great place to live at any age, with its superior health care services, world class cultural amenities, affordable housing and diversity of weather! The magazine celebrates this region as a positive place to age and thrive in the second half of life.
Boomer and Beyond magazine launched in Fall 2015 and is published six times a year : January/February, March/April, May/June, July/August, September/October and November/December.
The flagship publication, Northeast Ohio Parent, launched in March 2014 as a refreshing new monthly publication for parents in the Greater Cleveland/Akron region. Along with e-newsletters and social media platforms, the magazine and this website highlight the area’s vast opportunities for families and the tremendous diversity of Cleveland and beyond. Northeast Ohio Parent showcases editorial relevant to the region with topics that hit home with a broad spectrum of families. Content focus areas include education, enrichment, health and wellness, activities and events, recreation, entertainment, community profiles and much more. You’ll see the best that Northeast Ohio has to offer as viewed through a family-friendly lens. Family-friendly events are another component of Northeast Ohio Parent as we look to connect families with area businesses in a lively and entertaining environment.
Aging Answers is a special 6 times a year supplement to Northeast Ohio Parent where we showcase the importance of care giving to aging loved ones.
Who We Are
Brad Mitchell is the founder and publisher of Northeast Ohio Parent, Northeast Ohio Boomer and Beyond and owner of Mitchell Media LLC. Northeast Ohio Parent was launched by Brad and a team in early 2014 and Boomer launched in 2015. Brad has served in many different capacities in the magazine industry since the late 1980’s in both Cleveland and his hometown of Chicago. Brad is a “young Baby Boomer” and is married with three grown children and a golden retriever.
Marie Elium spent 10 years as a newspaper reporter in Virginia and Ohio before switching to freelance writing when her two children were young. The kids are now Millennials, but writing continues to be one of her favorite endeavors. Marie was named editor of Northeast Ohio Boomer and Beyond magazine in November 2015 and is a graduate of Miami University.
Janyse brings more than 11 years of sales experience in the parenting/family market to Northeast Ohio Parent. Previously, Janyse worked as sales manager for Mahoning Valley Parent magazine and Akron Family magazine, where she developed a passion for connecting parents with the best resources to help their families. Janyse has been with Northeast Ohio Parent since its first issue in March 2014.
Chris Geer brings a wealth of experience and strong business acumen developed from his experiences at Time Warner Cable Media, Miller Brewing Co, PolyOne and Dr. Pepper/Snapple Group. Chris has been with Northeast Ohio Parent since its first issue in March 2014.
Michelle brings with her more than 16 years of experience in sales and marketing. She spent the first nine of those years with the former Cleveland/Akron Family Magazine. In the years that followed, she sold for several other print publications while also gaining some experience in the world of digital marketing.
With a strong background in travel sales and many years of association with parent magazines, Samantha brings a high level of energy to the team with her willingness to work hard and take care of details. Taking time with each client as a consultant empowers her to offer clients the perfect fit in marketing solutions for their respective business.
Yvonne is a transplant from Pittsburgh and has many years of sales experience in print, cable television and radio, including hosting an on-air call-in talk show. Some of the publications she has sold for are Expression Newspaper Pittsburgh, Our Community Voice Ohio, Family Fun Directory Ohio, and Gulf Coast Family News in Florida. Yvonne is a co-organizer on several “Meet Up” groups, including Single Baby Boomers. As a Baby Boomer herself, she enjoys dining out, dancing and listening to oldies music.
Laura has specialties in art direction, publication design, photography, logos and prop styling. Her background lies in conceptualizing and designing page layouts for core editorial, custom media and advertising. She is a graduate of The University of Akron.
Sherry Lundberg Advertising Production Manager
Sherry previously served as advertising/production coordinator for Cleveland/Akron/Lake-Geauga Family magazines as well as Ohio Sports and Fitness magazine, Tri-County Business Journal and City to Country Guide. Sherry has over 20 years of experience in graphic design including designing mailers, brochures, logo designs and corporate identity packages for advertising and printing companies.
Alexis brings with her more than 11 years’ experience in the publishing industry. She spent many years planning and marketing trade shows and events and served on the planning committee for her church’s outreach events serving 200-2,000 people. As a mother of three, she is committed to finding and planning quality, affordable and fun events for hers and other families to participate in.
