We’ve Got Volunteers Galore: Read About Them in Our New Issue

We’re inching closer and closer to the holiday season, and the pressure is on for the perfect gifts, holiday menus and tasteful decor. Yet the true meaning of this time of year is best illustrated by Northeast Ohio’s volunteers.

These givers donate their time, talents and money to hundreds of organizations and causes throughout our region. We at Northeast Ohio Boomer and Beyond are thrilled to share some of their stories in our annual volunteer salute in our November/December issue that’s coming out this week.

Each year, we’re always amazed by the ways Boomers find to volunteer. The opportunities open to them are almost unlimited. If you’re looking for ways to use your time and talents, we have a list of great places to start. Maybe this is the year to step into the volunteer pool.

And those of you who already are in the pool – thanks. We know you get as much as you give by being a volunteer. Every organization that thrives because of your contributions is grateful for your help. How do we know? They’ve told us over and over again.

In this issue, we also have a story on winter birdwatching. With our position along Lake Erie, Northeast Ohio attracts all sorts of interesting birds. If you’ve always wanted to get into birding, or if you want to “up” your bird game, then you’ll like our story with tips on where to go and what to look for when you get there.

Several local birders weighed in and offered their suggestions. A good place to start is with your local county park district. Most throughout Northeast Ohio offer birding walks and seminars. We’ve found that birders are an especially friendly group and they love to share their knowledge. Put on some hiking boots, bundle up and look around. You’ll like what you see.

Watch for Northeast Ohio Boomer and Beyond in racks at more than 600 locations including Giant Eagle stores, Discount Drug Marts, Marc’s, libraries, rec centers and other places Boomers visit.
