Northeast Ohio Boomer & Beyond/Mitchell Media LLC is seeking a part-time editor to join the team reaching mature adults in Greater Cleveland with the theme of “Better Living After 50.” The vast majority of the work is done remotely with occasional meetings for planning and review. The ability to attend onsite production days – one per issue – is preferred. This position reports to the lead editor of Boomer & Beyond.
Expected hours per month range from 10 – 25 but could grow based on candidate’s skills and company’s needs. Competitive hourly pay rate based on experience and skill set.
-Edit copy for bimonthly magazine
-Review all editorial content prior to layout, checking for correct spelling, grammar, jargon, punctuation, semantics and formatting. Editorial content includes the cover, headlines, events listings, photo cutlines and stories.
-Update the progress of copy in Google Documents and move edited content to the designated folder for art director.
-Review final magazine content prior to upload, looking for inadvertent layout issues such as missing photo cutlines, awkward website URL splits, missing page numbers, etc.
-Availability necessary from the 15th of the month prior to the publication month. For example, copy generally is due to the editor by Feb. 15 for the March/April issue, etc. and is ready for the copy editor to review through the end of the month. The upload takes place within the first week or so of the following month.
-Willingness to occasionally respond to last-minute copy editing questions on deadline.
Potential Additional Responsibilities
-Edit copy for enewsletter, currently bimonthly
-Assist with development of new content for website and enewsletter
-Assist with Social Media posting
-Assist with creative planning for future issues of magazine, special supplements, podcast, etc.
-Contribute articles for Northeast Ohio Parent – print, digital, and social media.
-Assist with special projects as available
