Fossil Discoveries of I-71, Interstate through Time

November 5 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Event Navigation

What began as a construction project for Cleveland’s Interstate 71 became a miraculous discovery of ancient fossils! Over 50 years ago, construction began on Interstate 71 through Cleveland’s west side.

As dozers hit the ground, they uncovered a hidden treasure: giant armored fish skulls and mummified sharks buried for 360 million years!

Join Solon Library as Lee Hall, Fossil Preparator and Vertebrate Paleontology Lab Manager of CMNH, takes you back in time, then really far back in time, when Northeast Ohio was flooded by a shallow tropical sea. Don’t miss this thrilling program, made possible by the Friends of the Solon Library.
